Losing Weight And Lowering Blood Pressure Before Ttc, Any Suggestions?
ByHi, my hubby and I are not “officially” TTC, but are considering starting to try this year… Unfortunately, I am currently overweight… and because of it I have blood pressure problems. Realizing the health risks when a person has high blood pressure and pregnant, I would like to lose as much weight as possible before we start trying. Does anyone have any suggestions, or is anyone in the same situation I am in? I just want to make sure that I am as healthy as I can be, when I am pregnant. Thanks…

We were in a similar situation when starting infertility treatments – I was overweight and had slightly elevated blood pressure. My doctor referred us to a nutritionist. She did not want me crash dieting or anything like that . . . it was important to make lifestyle changes (both in diet and in exercise) that we would be able to maintain during the pregnancy. I also got into yoga which is something that I have been able to keep up with during pregnancy.
Here are a couple of websites that helped us:http://babyfit.sparkpeople.com/landing_p…http://www.whattoexpect.com/preconceptio…
It is wonderful that you are planning ahead! I hope that it leads to a happy & healthy pregnancy in your future!
I am in the same boat as you. We are getting ready ttc. My dr says weight is ok and blood pressure good. I feel I still should lose some weight (I weigh 167#). I have lost almost 10#’s w/ weight watchers. I really like it, as their saying goes: This is a lifestyle change not a diet. You don’t have to go to the meetings, they have online program, but I think the meetings help. You can typically lose 1-2#’s a week (more the first couple weeks). Exercise is always a way to help lose weight and lower blood pressure. Good luck!
I am also planning TTC and am losing weight. My doctor said I can safely lose a pound a week. It is not just because of being overweight that you may have high blood pressure. Lack of exercise is often a bigger culprit (I am overweight and almost always have low blood pressure – but I walk a lot).
I have been using suggestions from sparkpeople.com, but I was getting questionable support. I’m just going to try the stuff from Paul McKenna (TLC) since my problem is less losing weight than maintaining it (I’ve lost 80 pounds 3 times!).
You do have to look at what you are eating. Bread (not sweets) and emotional eating is a real problem for me. Once I tame those, my weight will be less of a problem.
